PIEPER ELECTRIC BEGINNINGS

In 1947, while employed at Milprint as maintenance man, Julius Pieper brought to life the first vestiges of Pieper Electric. Working out of a Packard during his off hours, JP operated on the premise that having all the material and tools on hand in the truck would create a viable business/enterprise.

Pieper Electric's first headquarters were at a farmhouse on the corner of 76th and Appleton in Milwaukee. Over the years, the business operated out of various locations before arriving at its present location on January 1, 1962.

A pivotal event in the life of the company occurred in 1959 when JP's oldest son, Richard, came aboard. RP ostensibly arrived to organize the company affairs enough such that his father might have some time off. However, he wound up purchasing the company and staying to develop Pieper Electric.

At the time, the business had eight employees doing $250,000 worth of business a year. Today, the company employs over 500 men and women, and has substantially increased its earning power.

"PIEPER MAN" LOGO

In 1961, one year after assuming responsibility for the company, Richard Pieper introduced the "Pieper Man" logo and advertising campaign. By 1967, the logo evolved into the "Man Hurling Thunderbolt" which is still used today. Richard's approach to the industry has always been unique and innovative, and the innovation of the "Pieper Man" has become a hallmark of Pieper Electric.

In 1995, the "Pieper Man" award was developed to acknowledge and encourage this tradition of creativity and innovation. This annual award will be given to a company group that exhibits innovation in process improvement or a new operational level achieved over an extended period of time. The intention is to recognize the introduction of new significant possibilities for the company's future with a focus on quality. The person responsible for the recipient group will be the permanent caretaker of the award. Each recipient will be decided by the president, but nominations, applications, and suggestions are also accepted. A maximum of two awards will be given annually.
